MY ROLE
External Relations Director, Emcee
As External Relations Director and the Event Emcee, I held dual responsibility for front-of-house audience engagement and end-to-end event logistics. I managed the entire student registration pipeline, orchestrated shifting logistics and tracking for a large team of student helpers, and commanded the stage as Emcee to steer program pacing, VIP protocol, and live audience interaction.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
As part of my tenure with the Hong Kong Malaysian Student Association (HKMSA), I co-directed the logistical framework for Merdeka Nite, the premier annual gala celebrating Malaysia’s Independence Day in Hong Kong.
Hosted in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Hong Kong (MAHK) and the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (MayCham), this high-profile event served as a critical cultural anchor and networking bridge for hundreds of Malaysian students, expatriates, corporate leaders, and diplomatic officials.
My role combined intensive behind-the-scenes operational management with emceeing, ensuring the gala successfully strengthened community ties and connected the youth with institutional leaders.
THE PROBLEM
High-profile diplomatic and cultural galas can easily suffer from operational chaos—ranging from entry bottlenecks at front-of-house registration to backstage communication breakdowns—risking low audience engagement and disrupted formal VIP protocols.
THE SOLUTION
Managed student helper logistics while simultaneously emceeing the entire program to ensure seamless stage execution, dynamic live-cue management, and high-energy audience interaction.
