HONG KONG MALAYSIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION (HKMSA)
SOCIAL NETWORKING EVENTS

MY ROLE
External Relations Director (2021 - 2023):
As External Relations Director, I held full ownership of international partnership negotiations, regional fundraising strategies, and end-to-end event execution. I collaborated directly with diplomats, senior corporate executives, and university associations to design high-impact networking galas, mentorship frameworks, and independent revenue-generating initiatives.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Over a multi-year tenure as External Relations Director, I led the strategic ecosystem development, corporate partnerships, and stakeholder diplomacy for the Hong Kong Malaysian Student Association (HKMSA), solidifying it as Hong Kong's largest community for the Malaysian youth.
Partnering closely with institutional bodies like the Malaysian Consulate, Tourism Malaysia, and major regional corporate enterprises, I directed a comprehensive engagement portfolio designed to bridge the gap between academic life and professional readiness in Hong Kong's highly competitive market. A core pillar of this portfolio was dedicated to nurturing Malaysian talent to continue developing their careers in Hong Kong, and ensured that Malaysian students who wished to settle back in Malaysia could cultivate deep ties with government officials/Malaysian corporates, establishing a crucial bridge to bring their high-value talent back to Malaysia.
INSTITUTIONAL NETWORKING SHOWCASES
THE PROBLEM
Standard corporate and institutional networking events often feel rigid and transactional, resulting in low student engagement and a missed opportunity to connect student talent back with their home country's sovereign representatives.
THE SOLUTION
Designed relaxed yet highly sophisticated cultural networking galas—such as "Malaysia Day Brunch" or "High Tea" to dismantle corporate intimidation, allowing Malaysian students to network directly with government officials, secure local institutional support, and build channels to develop their talent in Hong Kong or Malaysia.

CAREER & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
THE PROBLEM
Junior international students lack immediate, realistic visibility into localised hiring practices, real-world interview expectations, and complex regional visa pathways. High commuter turnover and intense academic stress meant that international student communities easily fractured without a deeply rooted emotional connection and cultural anchor.
THE SOLUTION
Developed a holistic community combining corporate alumni, wellness, and heritage events to build a unified group identity andsustainable revenue stream for the association.

ABANG-KAKAK-ADIK MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
*Translated from Malay, Abang means older brother, Kakak means older sister, and Adik means younger sibling.
Reflecting the programme's core philosophy: a familial, community-driven ecosystem where senior professionals guide the next generation of Malaysian talent.
THE PROBLEM
International student talent frequently faces localized professional isolation, cultural anxiety, and a distinct lack of organic, high-level networks, making it exceptionally difficult to break into specialized corporate hiring markets abroad.
THE SOLUTION
Architected a multi-week corporate mentorship framework in partnership with the Malaysian Association of Hong Kong (MAHK) that paired students directly with senior industry executives, offering raw market visibility, structured professional development, and direct talent pipelines into regional enterprises.

CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP FRAMEWORK
THE PROBLEM
Maintaining consistent, year-over-year corporate funding and diplomatic backing requires exceptional organisational transparency and data-proven ROI, which student entities often struggle to articulate systematically.
THE SOLUTION
Established a rigorous reporting framework, delivering comprehensive impact data during AGMs regarding membership scaling and presenting predictable future growth roadmaps to anchor long-term sponsor trust.
