MY ROLE
Senior Student Ambassador @HKUST (Sep 20' – May 24')
External Relations Director @HKMSA (Sep 21' – Dec 23')
Coordinated complex multi-day event logistics, managed student-helper allocation, and spearheaded front-of-house engagement as the official Event Emcee for multiple orientation camps, successfully welcoming and integrating HKUST freshmen and cross-university Malaysian freshmen into the regional university ecosystem.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Transitioning into a new academic environment or relocating across borders to study in Hong Kong represents a critical pivot point for incoming students. Orientation initiatives serve as the vital initial gateway to ease this transition by transforming what can be an isolating move into an immediate experience of community and belonging.
To achieve this, I managed the end-to-end event logistics for the HKUST Senior Student Ambassador orientation camp. For HKMSA, I focused on planning immersive activities around Hong Kong and creating tailored content to help incoming students seamlessly get to know their new university and adapt to university life.
THE PROBLEM
Incoming university students frequently experience acute transitional anxiety, administrative overwhelm, and social isolation during their first weeks on campus, which can negatively impact their initial academic integration and institutional confidence.
THE SOLUTION
Coordinated and emceed 3 onboarding camps and their comprehensive event logistics for incoming student cohorts, creating a structured, high-energy environment that facilitated immediate peer-to-peer networking, campus familiarity, and a seamless transition into the university culture.
